I love how Black Hills actually sounds like black hills. Or maybe I was just really high the first time I heard it, but that's still the perfect scenery to traverse in my head to that song.

it's huge.

it's just no 5 because of some more or less abrupt song endings. what is the effect called when the sound slowly turns down/dies out? I dislike this effect in some of these endings..

Having fade outs on three consecutive songs is just really clumsy. I usually hate fade outs anyway so to have it happen three times in a row docks them some points for me.

had this at 4.5 at first but after six listens to this album i can see there's alot of repetitiveness throughout the album, and the album just seems a bit more vague now. its still an awesome record though

had this at a 4 before, changed to a 4.5 cause the album keep on getting better with each listen. tracks 6 and 8 are my favs on this atm.

this is a solid release, but i think their other 2 albums are better.

You think their DEBUT is better?? That thing is nigh unlistenable... more because of the production than the actual music but still

"The Levitated" is absolutely stunning. Weird, 90 percent of technical metal bands, instrumental or not, seem to get more technical and flashy as time goes on, but if you listen carefully, this is must less 'soloey' (bad term) and less technical than Carving. It's much more large and atmospheric, more drawn out melodies, less insane tapping frenzies. Sure, its got its old STS moments, but I like this new direction a lot.

This album is quite literally "Collosal." Yes, pun but that's the most accurate word I can think of that describes this.

Hmm, I had sort of been thinking the opposite. I mean I totally agree that it's more massive and lush than CDC's more densely technical sound, but this album has sooooooooo many solos it's insane, and the solos are a lot more technical, too, with more tremolo picked runs and sweeping and all that shtuff.

Granted, I haven't listened to CDC for a little while so maybe I dunno what I'm talking about...

haha yeah the album is quite "Collosal". Even though its less techy than the other stuff they've done, its definitely a step up for them. Truly gorgeous stuff on here and the production is lovely. Great napping music too
