I can see what they're trying to do here and i can enjoy some of the songs and ideas. however some of these songs just don't do it for me, especially the first half of the album.
Also there's nothing i hate more than people backing music up with it's cultural relevance, influence, legacy and the way in which it was recorded. i could not give less of a fuck about those things, and none of that shit should determine or justify a rating. there's such a fine line between what people claim to be 'avant-garde' and what is just plain shitty. i honestly have no idea what to rate this. i'm going to have to listen to this more

What is avant-garde about this though is the sense of rhythm, which has certainly been liberated from blues and rock. The effect is comparable with the work of Albert Ayler's trio, which, quite certainly, is avant-garde from a jazz perspective.

Totally agree about that.

However in this case I think the music is interesting on it's own merit. Just look at it as a kind of raw blues album.
