Well yeah. If you love breakdowns, you're probably not going to dig this much. Journal is progressive, which almost inherently means: very few or zero breakdowns. Personally, I'm sick of breakdowns. They have been SEVERELY overused by countless bands in the past 10 years - possibly even worse than cheesy guitar solos in the 80's.
Also, some people consider the band, Tool, to be mathy. It is elementary school math compared to Journal. Time to study up on your differential equations or choose a different college major ;)

I tried to listen to this a few times and it is pretty bad (I'll admit that there is the occasional good part, but not enough).

I am convinced that the people who don’t like this are the ones who get really bogged down with the math and the weird timings. If they can't bob their head to it, they don't like it... Period.

I'm convinced that you came up with that idea to make yourself feel smarter than people that don't like this... unfortunately it just makes you sound dumb.

Geez. Touchy, Touchy, my friend. I was just proposing different ideas for why some people don't like Journal. Take it easy. Callin’ me dumb and everything. LOL!
For the record, this is not a novel idea that I’ve proposed, and I am certainly not the first to say it aloud. A lot of people tend to hate things that they don’t understand. I just like to hypothesize why, especially when many (not all) of the stated reasons seem cowardly or uneducated.

The problem is that a lot of people that have bothered to read the review and check out the album are people that like this kind of music, which is why your theory doesn't hold a lot of water. Obviously, there is going to be a large majority of people that don't like this simply because it's not even their style of music, but I didn't see a lot of them posting here.

"Hahahahaha! This is kind of funny to me. People really seem uncomfortable with the idea of someone creating a new style of music. They always have to compare it to something that they are familiar with to be ok with it."
I would hardly call this album innovative, unless this is the first metal album you've heard.
