"Okay, I'd tell him he's wrong. Why? Because that's my OPINION. And if everyone else said that as well, that doesn't make it any less of an OPINION, just like the original statement is also an OPINION."
Dude, take a couple of deep breaths and calm down. It's truly not something to have an asthma attack over. Lol
Just messing with you, dude.
But yes, it is your opinion, but when the opinion is voiced by 1,000 other people saying the same exact thing, then what does that truly become?

I think if we try to take away people's ability to call someone wrong/stupid for the opinions on music, the sputnik universe will implode

But yes, it is your opinion, but when the opinion is voiced by 1,000 other people saying the same exact thing, then what does that truly become? nothing. millions of people think that the music of Nickelback is fantastic, does that make them 'correct' just because they are the majority?

I'm going to rearrange each of our sentences to make this more clear:
Me "I define 'good' and 'bad' as words that denote opinions, based on something I know for a fact."
You "I define 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd as a great album, based on my opinion."
That's the difference.
And i'm going to repeat something I said earlier:
What are you on about?

"When the opinion is voiced by 1,000 other people saying the same exact thing, then what does that truly become?"
It becomes a more widely held opinion. Really, that's all there is to it. It's not the same as - for example - religion, where you're either right or you're wrong.
|

then stop using that argument 'lots of people think the same, therefore it must be true'.
bands like Nickelback, however they are portrayed on sputnik and the like, still have an overwhelmingly huge number of fans in comparison to haters. this is why people are stupid ;)

Deviant: I merely wanted to make what I said a little more clear. What I'm "on about" is precisely what I stated earlier. A large amount of people who support of an opinion doesn't make it a fact. It's like multiplying zero by a giant number - it's still going to be zero.

How is it not the same? That contradicts the whole argument. Not wanting to bring organized religion into this because it doesn't belong here, but according to your argument, religion should be the same, shouldn't it?

so which baptists are right? the ones who say that dancing punches your ticket for hell or the ones that bomb abortion clinics? maybe it's the evangelicals who only think you get there by saving other people's souls. hey, which muslims are right for that matter?
you'd think if god was so all-knowing he wouldn't be such a racist. what about all the asian and african people who have never even heard of the bible? are they right or wrong?

Why? All the religious people think they're right, and all the atheists think they're right as well. So that means they're both opinions, right?
Wrong. Okay, for the sake of argument, let's assume that there is no God. Suddenly, all the religious people, when they die, turn out to be wrong. Why? Because a FACT - that there is no God - has proved their belief wrong. Now assume there is a God. The atheists turn out to be wrong, because a FACT - that there is a God - proved them wrong.
It's not the same as rating an album. There's no universal mandate or truth that states that any one opinion, good or bad, has to be correct.

That basically contradicts everything you've said so far. Religion is opinion, based on how many people think each sect is wrong or right. It's a person's opinion on whether there is a god or not, based on the fact that there isn't any proof there is or isn't

yeah but no one will ever find out if they're right or wrong bc they'll be dead. so on earth, there will never be a right or wrong about religion.

Yeah, and I said the exact same thing like a page later. So we agree

It doesn't matter, just because we don't know something doesn't make it untrue. There are probably millions of species we haven't discovered yet, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

yeah but they CAN be discovered. we will never, ever know if there's a god (at least factually speaking), therefore no one will ever be right or wrong. until you personally die, you can't say anyone is right or wrong.
and that's what this is all about when it comes down to it. not who is right or wrong, but the ability to call them right or wrong. right?

Okay, let me try putting this another way. With religion, you say, for example, "I think there is a God," which is an opinion. Then you find out that there is a God (for the sake of argument assume this is true), which is a FACT.
Now with an album, you might say "I think this album will be good," before it comes out. That's an opinion. Then when it comes out, you might say "This album is good," which is also an opinion.
