I can understand why this is Mikael Akerfeldt's favourite metal album of all time. The progression in sound of the sprawling title track and 'Sabbra Cadabra' reflect the more obvious melodic influences of 'Fluff' and the almost psychedelic flourish of the strange yet still somehow satisfying 'Who are you?'. I'd like to think this is the band's last truly great record with Ozzy, as 'Sabotage' doesn't impress me as much as the band's first five records do.

Their second era, which is a more progressive one.
Hope that clarifies my sentence.

Just curious...never thought on a 2nd Sabbath era with Ozzy.
Only Mark I and II with Dio and so on

Their first 3 albums were heavy doomy and...different compared to the next 3. Volume 4, this and
Sabotage was their second period mostly in terms of musical direction.
Their last 2 albums "Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die!" were written in their third period, in the
years of personal conflicts and turmoil.
That's how i summarise Sabbath's course in the 70's.

Ok that makes sense.
All their albums up to Sabotage are rock/metal classics.

Yeah, even though Sabotage is not entirely Rock/Metal. It has some weird (for my tastes) operatic moments. But still it is very good.

Yeah like Supertzar, I really love this track. Perfect gig intro.
|

Yeah, every album up to Technical Ecstacy is classic Sabbath, this album being their superior one since the release of MoR, IMO.
