I understand not liking the vocals, but, c'mon, this is metal. A stellar instrumental performance shouldn't be ruined from a sub-par (but not terrible) vocalist. Those are just my feelings at least.

Anyways, I might get this tomorrow.

i couldnt possibly disagree more about the statement of alaska being a shitty retake of the silent circus...

The vocals get in the way of the music and they could at least turn them down or something to make it less of a headache.

Alaska has way more filler than any other BTBAM album though

Good review, but I completely disagree with you on Swim to the Moon. Though I can see where you're coming from on some of the points you make, It's probably one of my favorite songs they've ever written.

Yeah, Swim to the Moon is a bit too long, but it's still one of BTBAM's best.

Plus I don't get what's wrong about tommy's voice, his singing and growls are always spot on. Proof being Aspirations.

Aspirations is half-sung by their old drummer, though.

Yes, but he does the clean vocals in Aspirations really well on Colors_Live. Like, really, suspiciously well.

I keep hearing that this CD has better transitions, but one of my main criticisms of this album is that the transitions are way worse than on colors. Both going into and out of the clean in the first half of Diessase, Injry, Madness for examples are just terrible. Good points on Swim to the Moon also, I would just add that it doesnt matter that we know they can play their insturments, its that they used almost all old ideas and did them worse than in previous releases.

I downloaded some of their stuff. I gotta say I like this a lot more than their older stuff. I hate vocalists who don't know how to do anything other than a low growl, it seems like he's expanded some in this one.

his growls are spot on but it means jack all if you can accurately hit a shitty tone

Well that's a fun fact I wasn't aware of, but it's still very impressive in Colors_Live. Suspiciously impressive...

Great review man. I need more listens to make up my mind on how I'd rate it, but you're convincing.

Also: Bodominflames, I was at that Terminal 5 concert too. BtBaM and Opeth back to back was outrageous

then Dream Theater came on and bored me to death with their mindless prog shred lol

Finally: I don't think Tommy ever used autotune in his singing, and I like his voice.
