The fact they write differently to everyone else isn't what makes their songs poor. I'm all for originality. They just don't seem to know what to get rid of and cram all these generally bad bunch of ideas in with the odd few good ones and everything comes out sounding a bit shit.

Alaska is still their best and the filler was in separate songs.

^Thank you, it most definitely is. This album seems like a slightly less enjoyable iteration of Colors.

My Problem with Between the buried and me is that its like yeah you can play your instruments really really good, but so what? i havent heard this yet but on Colors I felt that it was more or less a show of superiority rather than composition and songwriting. I also sometimes think that people see songs over 10 minutes and automatically assume its a great song.

mmm, i wouldn't say that Caleb. just difference of opinion i guess, cuz i really like that album. but to be fair, i haven't heard Silent Circus or the self-titled. do you like one of those better than Colors?

TSC > TGM > Alaska > Colors > Self-titled.

They're all good to a certain extent; this particular album is a lot less stupid (vavoom a-tee-tah!) and less boring than Colors though. Informal Gluttony and Foam Born drag beyond comprehension.

Alaska>The Silent Circus>those two Glass Casket albums>Colors>This>Self-titled

and as far as whoever the fuck said the transitions were flawless... they were on their older stuff but there are numerous moments on this and colors were the transitions are nil and it just seems like you ran into a brick wall of genre mashing. I really like some of the ideas that they had on The Great Misdirect but the execution was lacking.

This is probably their most solid and diverse release aside from Alaska

Anyone notice the similarities in BTBAMS career to Metallica. Raw energy impressive first CD, best CD to date second, classic most recognizable hit on the third, most technical longest fourth, and now of course the black album which will be a huge hit in the prog community but fans of the old will cry bloody murder. Who is ready for Load!!!!!!....... or not

^ Oh, and Colors is definitely not their most technical release.
