Employing two singers instead of one was a pretty big change. It was a good move imo, it kept the band moving forward by changing their style somewhat (Hughes and Coverdale brought a lot of soul and funk influences to the band) instead of trying to continue with the sound heard on their previous albums which Gillan was obviously a big part of.

Also of note: this has some of Paice's best drumming hands down.

every cool note reached in Burn or Stormbringer albums is made by Glenn, if it wasn't for Mistreated, Coverdale's work with DP would've been pretty mediocre

Can't really agree with that man. The combination of Coverdale and Hughes gave a lot of freshness to the sound of Deep Purple. Coverdale could also perform better than Hughes the MKII material.

Coverdale was essential to the Mk. III/IV line-up's sound. As much as I love Hughes' voice, this album (and the two after it)
wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they are without Coverdale.
