Porcupine Tree has always seemed kinda boring to me with the single exception of the song Dark Matter. The guitar solo at the end of that song just makes it work.

Dark matter is one of their best songs yeah but it's ironically kind of the only good song off of Signify.
I really love "Great Expectations," I wish it were longer than 1:26. Also the riff in "the Blind House" is fucking great.

I'll submit to your argument I suppose Wizard since its part of a larger overall piece but it still irked me upon listening to it and I was sharing my opinion on that matter.
Album is good nonetheless.

Signify has more good songs: "Sever", "Sleep of no Dreaming"

I just saw Porcupine Tree last night. They blew me away with their performance. They played the Incident in its entirety. It was truly AMAZING and made me appreciate this album even more.
The most intense part of the show was when the played the trinity. "Octane Twisted, The Seance and Circle of Manias." But honestly this album is amazing let is seep and grow on you like fungus.

I wish I could get into their older albums. I find them snoozefests but I will give them another go.

Sleep of No Dreaming was the only other song I thought was really good off of Signify. Nothing else stood out to me.
Check out The Sky Moves Sideways if you haven't wiz...that ones awesome.

This album is awesome. Sputnik's crazy. The end.
But seriously, there's been a lot of SW hate around here in the past year. I remember when FOABP first came out, people were swooning. What happened?

yeah I don't get the hate for this either. I know the previous two albums are better but this is a pretty solid effort

Yeah, I've been noticing that. I guess as he gets more successful, SW becomes a more polarizing fiure. To some degree, I think people who don't like his stuff just get sick of him, and then there are those who are just generally vindictive...but not many are like that.

Where do you see people hating this?
The first disc is a pretty solid 4. Lots of great moments. They're definitely capable of more, but overall it's pretty satisfying.
I really don't like the second disc much at all however. It's just really average stuff. If the 4 tracks on Nil Recurring were instead released as the second disc of this, it would've been much better imo, seeing as Nil Recurring is a solid 4 in itself.

black dahlia is the best track on the second disc

If you're comparing this to anything pre In Absentia, you're only fooling yourself.

I agree with that statement but I have no idea how people can wank over anything before that album.

The fact that probably half of Porcupine Tree fans find it to be their best album is pretty laughable to me. thank you

Yeah, In Absentia is definitely not their best. Fear Of A Blank Planet is my fave, followed by Lightbulb Sun
