Well It's been a long time since I've read ... wait, what's that again, back it up... and re-read a Nick Greer piece.
Always pointed, and time has polished the delivery like "brushstrokes: walk in the park" lol
The education is glowing, well done. But I wonder if you lose your audience with the intellect (see Kerry vs. Bush 2004)
I see too much of The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion being reviewed in terms of prior releases. As Gavin sings on "Mourning this Morning".... "We're getting older". El Cielo was a beautiful place and time and I think it should be left there, to be re-visisted on stage in a live setting.
'
I am so glad you pointed out "Gavin's gorgeous voice". "Catch without arms" was a breakout for him and this effort solidifies him up there with the best.
If I had any exceptions with your review it would be the label "pop". For me, Dredg is far to instrumentally superior to be pop or poppy.
Starting with "Catch without arms" I would, If I were labeling, call it Adult-contemporary. Good dig at U2. Keep up the good reviews!!!
And oh yes, and as for re-tread see: Frank Zappa>Zoot Allures>centaurian

"For me, Dredg is far to instrumentally superior to be pop or poppy. "
I think you are short changing pop as a genre. Just because radio pop is usually pretty washed musically doesn't mean that pop as a genre is washed musically. There are plenty of bands that do pop music very well and it's innovative and technical. Just look at legends like Queen or MJ, a lot of there music is both technically savvy, innovative and still a part of the pop genre.
What I'm trying to say is be careful about assuming a specific genre of music is "musically inferior" I've learned that whenever I do that I always get slapped with something the proves me terribly wrong.

dredg is poppy but not pop music. Blink 182 is poppy but not pop music
same concept.

I think it started off pretty strong. I enjoyed the first couple of tracks a lot. But then it kinda just became an OK album. Still, enjoyable.

To me this has a strong beginning and a strong ending. 1 too many instrumentals though.

The actual songs are brilliant, but the 'interludes' get in the way.

This had absolutely no lasting power for me compared to El Cielo, but it still had some awesome tracks, especially Information.
