for my first listen i thought this was actually more consistent than their previous two albums. I was expecting this to be a slog, considering the lower rating, but i was pleasantly surprised. no bad songs, just a couple weaker ones

In my opinion, this is less great than the two first studio albums of them. It's probably too dated. Besides, I never was a big fan of the soundtracks by prog bands.

I found the music to have nice atmosphere and most choruses to be quite enjoyable. I was really surprised by this. I didn't really even want to listen to it initially
