all three of those guys are killing rap. can't speak for b.o.b. till i hear the record, but yea. they are destroying all the art in the genre, leaving only a shell of pseudo-indie viability...

this guy is garbage. That being said, I'm surprised academy that you don't like this album
|

pseudo indie viability
|
| |
re-read that as: hip-hop for people who don't ordinarily embrace hip-hop, and who don't have any real reason to like this, other than it appears "different"

how the fuck is fucking asher roth "pseudo-indie"
|
| |
dude its wale and cudi and roth and lupe's 2nd album and common's "finding forever" and all that shit. its trading in your gangsta chain for a louis vuitone scarf, sucking on a lolly instead of sparking that blunt, and generally rapping about things that aren't related to gang violence at all. fucking disgusting if you ask me.
|
| |
god forbid anyone rap about anything that isnt gang violence!
before you answer i'll give you the fact that some of the rappers in this supposed "pseudo-indie" ilk
you talk about are either pretentious or overly deliberate in their approach, but to cast off the
whole "scene" (which i guess is defined as not rapping about violence, drugs, and sex????) as
disgusting is silly. then again you're theacademy
|

damn fucking straight im theacademy.

plus rapping about things you "know" (i.e. stuff that isnt "gang violence"; whatever that means)--whether a "conscious" effort to avoid mainstream rap ideals or not--is much better than some of the horrific attempts to be "hardcore" when that's not at all what you are (REPPN ICP BRO)

except when it prompts an illegitimate disdain for the more influential tenets of the genre
among weekender rap fans
(like people who don't think asher roth and kid cudi are complete garbage (because they are) but
nonetheless bash everything 50 Cent touches just because 50's hype surpassed his talent)...

Except I think Kid Cudi and Asher Roth are totally different. Roth isn't that good, but Cudi has a bunch of potential, and his new album had amazing beats, but it was plagued with people outdoin him or mediocre lyricism. It'll be interesting to see his next album

Asher sort of has a grip on internal rhymes and flow, but he makes no use of that whatsoever on this or on most of his work.
