Excellent review good sir. Really liked the descriptions of the songs and I fully agree this is a strong 4 rating (gave this a listen the other night, picked up a cheap hardcopy today).

Thanks for the compliments, I need to get a hardcopy of this, but cheapest I have seen it is £8.99, might have to wait till it is reduced somewhat as I am rather skint at the minute.

Wow this is really good. I've only listened through this once but I can already tell it will be my second favorite Mastodon album right behind Blood Mountain

i listened to leviathan and blood mountain this morning, and this album just comes up flat and boring compared to them.

there is no trace of heaviness on this album, IMO, and that's kinda the draw for me with these guys.

It's their songwriting that draws me to Mastodon.

I'm one who likes more songs over length of songs. short attention span may never allow me to listen to Last Baron all the way through.. aside from that little rant, it's a great album! imo, oblivion is the best song of 2009 thus far.

Your draw to a progressive band is how heavy they are?

Wow.

After two listens, I think this is Mastodon's weakest album. It's like Cynic's Traced in Air, alot of good ideas but they don't necessarily all work well together. However, alot going on here so my rating may go up.
