Sound-off up.

Yeah, good stuff for putting that up. I really am unsure you justified a 4.5 rating to be honest. In a way, I get what you mean about 'Into The Light', as many of the songs build up well enough, but then fall flat. As for 'The Paramour Sessions' being nu-metal, I disagree with that. Did you only hear 'Wanna Be Loved', because the rest of that LP really doesn't sound anything like their true nu-metal phase on 'Infest'?

well the sound-off explains at least why you liked it so much. I have checked out every Roach album and was very disappointed with this (yeah i know I shouldn't have hoped anything big anyway). The only thing that doesn't fit in my head is the fact that you, JE34, thought Paramour Sessions was too nu-metal. Infest was nu-metal, that was pure alt.rock. Although it's actually nice to see that somebody likes this, even if it was a disappointment for most.

Yeah, I have to agree with metalstyles15 here. "Infest was (indeed) nu-metal" through & through... Not 'The Paramour Sessions'. In fact, to quote some handsome devil from this very review: "Surprisingly proficient no matter what the style of song, the LP ranged from adrenalin rush nu-metal to poppy mainstream rock and from hair metal to power ballads."

This is hardly a "metamorphosis." Papa Roach should have stayed in their coccon longer.

I think I've finally been won over. Diehard Papa Roach fan giving it a 3 is a pretty damn big disappointment

i don't see what is so crazy about people not liking this bland piece of crap JE34

macLOFFlyn, I genuinely thought the album title was a positive thing, but all it did was build up expectations. I guess they (or their label) were underwhelmed by the lack of commercial success of 'The Paramour Sessions'.
korraeswai, have you been won over, or should that be "lost" by the band? Like I've said once or twice in these very comments, I am also a fan of the band to some degree, but this was not good. A big disappoinment indeed!
Oh oh, itchyandscratchy is back. What did you do Kane?
At least JE34 is no longer all by his lonesome. Someone just rated this album a 5...!!!

well i may sound like a broken record, but speaking as a diehard papa roach fan, this is not even close to a classic album. a 5 is honestly ridiculous.

Well, beforetomorrowcomes, the stage is yours. Feel free to provide a reasoning for that rating, whether it be through a sound-off like JE34 did, or in these comments...

i wasn't really into papa roach, but a friend turned me on to this album and I honestly fell in love. They touch a lot of different genres here--- we have an almost perfectly done energetic opener (Change or Die), which contrasts beautifully with ballads like Carry Me, Nights of Love and State of Emergency--which is much better in my opinion than their older stuff like Scars and Forever. Songs like Hollywood Whore, I ALmost Told You That I Loved You, and Into the Light are unbelievably catchy and what rock really should be like. The lyrics range from dirty (I ALmost Told You), to moving in some of the ballads. Had Enough is a rare cry for change from a band like this. Never before have I heard an album when a band alternated so seamlessly between so many genres. The songwriting structure is strong too---March Out of the Darkness features every possible side of Papa Roach. this really is a great album in my mind, despite what anyone says.
Thank you for listening.

"They touch a lot of different genres here". "Never before have I heard an album when a band alternated so seamlessly between so many genres".
Hmmm, I'm not so certain about all that. The introductory paragraph to this review suggested that was what I liked so much about 'The Paramour Sessions'. In fact, the lack of variety was what disappinted me so much here. The entire mid-section (apart from 'Into The Light') almost seems like one long song to me.
And I'm unsure I would call 'State of Emergency' a "ballad"!

Not even going to check this out. Only song I ever liked by Papa Roach was 'Forever'.

Nah, if that's the case gyro, it's probably not worth your time. Although, if you liked 'Forever', surely you also liked 'Scars'?

Your in serious need of some progressive rock

Haha. Maybe even just some Muse like Alt-Rock will do the job.
Speaking of Rock, Alt-Rock and the like, has anyone else had the genre 'ROCK' completely taken off their pie chart. I had it as my top genre at about 24% and now it has just completely disappeared!
|
| |
Nope, I'll admit last time I looked Rock was about 25%, but it still takes up a hefty 20% for me Davey, did you delete a whole load of ratings? This Message Edited On 04.13.09

I've actually never heard 'Scars', Dave.

don't listen to Davey, Scars is bad haha.
But now I shall agree with Davey myself and say that state Of Emergency is def. not a ballad. The only good real ballad by Roach is Forever, the faster paced love songs are better in my eyes though (like "She Loves Me Not" or "Broken Home" which is more of a family love, precisely the lack of it, shiz but love anyway).
