this album very deliberately uses some "dated" turn of the decade acid sounds, fantastically ofc, so why do the people who love this not love the debut? :[

Yeah that's a very good point! It sadly isn't as hyped up as this one. If you can even call this one hyped up here...

At least we Know, park.

I will check but not sure when

Maiden is still looming over me

that period is such a mess when it comes to genre and classification, unlike the music itself which can be very creative and led to a lot of different genres later in the 90s

I can't imagine caring about Maiden in 2021, even if it's good. I don't really listen to Maiden though. Might dust off Seven Sons or Powerslave once in a blue moon, that's about it.

And yeah I don't remember liking the first Orbital, not sure why now... oh wait 'Orbital 2' isn't great apparently. This may need investigating.

Checking or revisiting their early records is totally worth it.

Talking about worth it: Middle of Nowhere's opener was nice!

Yeah I get that. It is a dauntingly diverse and open-minded and explorative and creative and limitless era. Makes it hard. But also makes it GREAAAAT.

ofc, its not an issue with the music itself, just with communicating why its great to other people

I have that problem with most of my 5.0s too. How can you make people see what is so good about them aaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

a lot of us tend to think of music in terms of genre, but the way edm subgenres are typically defined might be a little too precise (with the exception of idm which is just bullshit)

because a lot of these albums change genre from track to track, going by those definitions

This 100%. God I love 90s electronic. 90s in general of course.

basically a "house" or "techno" album of the era is most likely gonna be a lot less homogenous than a 1hour dj set
