I can't get over how shitty the production is on 90% of the 80s stuff I've heard. I though it was generally accepted that the 80s were a cesspool for music both popular and underground.

I've heard virtually no music from between the years of 1975 and 1985 though so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Well that's pretty much the only kind 80s stuff that terribly I'm interested in tbh so that just kind of proves my point.

@theBoneyKing I think you underestimate just how many genres the 80s wrought. For example, 1/2 of your pie chart

Well yeah there's a level of ignorance here of course but I'm 10 times more interested in listening to music from the 60s, 70s and 90s than I am the 80s. And I've heard even less 60s and 70s music than I have the 80s.

And I may be selling myself short a bit, I mean I've heard plenty of 80s pop music and even a fair amount of that 4AD type and new wave from my parents too, I just haven't actively listened to a lot of albums from that era.

But just because the 80s influenced it or did it first doesn't make the 80s stuff better.

But you're forgetting THE DEEP CUTS

The 80s as a whole is a formulaic piecemeal manufactured 'grab' at youth culture. The 'underground' 80s stuff is amazing and is why (when brought into the mainstream of the 90s) the 90s was so fucking reinvigorating. As a whole the 80s was fucking awful though. Carefree, vibrant and energetic...but fucking awful.

Surely the 70s and 90s were much better for rock than the 80s KILL?

I mean the last 2-3 years of the 80s were basically proto 90s so that stuff's good but before then what?

Bone, don't worry about it dude, the only people who think the 80s are a contender for the greatest decade are fat woman who horde cats.

Nah I'd much sooner do a 90s or 70s one Sandwich, plus I'll be working on the shoegaze one for the next 5 years.
