Yeah this is probably Enslaved's best album. Not in my top 10 for this year though, but most likely in the top 20.

This is actually the first album I've ever heard of theirs

You would most likely enjoy the last album RUUN. Good stuff, Path To Vanir is evil as a devil worshipping Santa.

This is Enslaved's best album, Period! This quickly overtook Below the Lights. And don't say it isn't 5 worthy until you've listened to a good 30-40 times (but you're probably right to some degree seeing as I'm just going on first impressions hahaha).

I feel like I should raise my rating.
Probably will.have to listen to it a few more times.

And don't say it isn't 5 worthy until you've listened to a good 30-40 times I've only listened to it a few times and it's easily better than their past stuff (which was mostly boring), but I haven't listened again in weeks... so thanks to Wizard I'll keep pushing towards 30-40 (it better get better though!).

Downloading this right now. Hopefully my computer won't be gay this time. Last time I tried to download this it said there wasn't enough disk space. I cleared some shit off so it better work.

I've never come across a band that can streamline so many influences together as well as these guys have over their lengthy career. They've been around the block and back over their ten records, only to add new layers of atmosphere and tighter/ more concise songwriting to their already lengthy career resume. That alone says something about this album/ band; how they have taken everything they've created and mashed it together into such a cohesive, smooth transistional album from Ruun. The keyboards and Pink Floyd influences certainly shine brightly on this album as well (which I love about these guys). I read somewhere that they should be labeled Pink Floydian black metal hahaha. I might review Monumension.

I agree. I love the Pink Floydian solo on Ground. It's astonishing. Also picked this up today for a real copy. I read lables for new Enslaved as post-black metal and Metal Hammer's piece about the new fusion of post rock/black Metal. They obviously need to hear Caina. You oo Wizard.

Adding to list. Are they post metal/ black metal?

Yes. The dude(23 year old guy) plays a shoe gazey, post rock inflicted brand of black/doom. Fuckin incredible, I'd review it but i'm in a funk right now.

Me as well (about the funk). That band sounds up my alley.

I'll give this a 4 for now. I'll probably end up raising it to a 4.5 after a few more listens. Very happy I gave this a second chance.
Fuck it I'm raising it right now. This Message Edited On 11.08.08

lol hawks. I love how you 4.5 pretty much every piece of black metal you get your hands on.
although this isn't really black metal. I am glad they are retaining their black metal roots though. I still prefer Frost though.

Haha well I love pretty much all of it. And you're right, this is more progressive metal than it is black metal, as you said it still keeps the black metal elements. This Message Edited On 11.08.08

The Opeth of black metal in a way.

precisely why I love them so much.
Frost is still better though... I seriously do not know a viking black metal album of a higher quality than frost. The production is excellent which says a lot because they are a norwegian black metal band. As a matter of fact, I think I will bump frost to a 4.5 now lol. I love the laugh at the end of the song Loke.
