I've got nothing against Trivium, but I thought this was pretty bad. Like you said, the vocals are awful, and the songs last too long

I love this album honestly, the few filler tracks aren't really enough for me to not enjoy the album thoroughly overall. I wanted to write a review for this but at this point it would be kind of redundant, even though my score is significantly higher than most.
The one thing i don't understand is so many people saying Kirisute Gomen is one of the better songs on the album, i personally think its rather choppy compared to the better songs such a Like Callisto To a Star in Heaven and Poison, the Knife or the Noose. Kirisute Gomen, Throes of Perdition, and Upon the Shores are the only real poopy songs in my opinion.

Exact opposite for me, I thought Throes of Perdition was one of the best songs on the album. This is slowly becoming my favorite Trivium album.

I used to love Ember To Inferno and Ascendancy back in the day, but have great difficulty listening to Trivium nowadays.
I enjoy Throes of Perdition from this album though.

also, 'Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis' has an amazing opening riff but the song eventually falls on its ass and amounts to nothing. Really disappointing tbh the riff deserved to be part of a better song.

while certainly not the best metal album ever (lol), I still find it to be some of the best in whatever subgenre it may be placed in (metalcore?). Some of the best riffs in the genre no doubt. Some folks may dislike the vocals, but I'm a fan.
standout track is the title track. Heafy is a huge Opeth fan, and I think the track is in the style of / is an homage to the eponymous track from the album Blackwater Park.
my rating is boosted by the nostalgia factor, as this was one of my first metal albums. Even with a few weak tracks, I still jam this however many years later.

Even when I was just getting into heavy stuff and only listened to metalcore in the young years of high school, I listened to this once and couldn't do it again. I just like Like Callisto because I made up a dance to it.
