Kind of a 'way you look at it' deal. I'm a big fan of their thrash days. Not that I expected anything really reminiscent of that. But the vocal patterns don't match up with the music. I think he had done a better job even on St. Anger.

Right, I get what you're saying. The full vocals have their moments (and are completely necessary at parts) on the album. But his out of tune singing and the sheer redundancy of patterns and style leaves many of the songs dried out early on.

My Apocalypse is a prime example of how bad Hetfield's vocals and delivery are on this album.

I thought his vocals were pretty good tbh. He stopped doing his snarly like YEAHYUH shit for the most part, which was nice.

when you mention the mastering, I dont know if it was just my headphones but when you listen to it with really quality headphones you can hear alot of distortion in the drums on the day that never comes.
Anyone else noticed this?
Yeah I know what you mean. I am listening to DM on my Sennheiser HD600's and that snare gives my a cracking sound. The thing is with audiophile headphones, they really tend to show if a recording's mastering was shitty.

I think that Hetfeilds vocals are great on this album, I don't know what your talking about Eakflanderyof. He was way younger when they made those 80's albums and over time he learned how to actually sing better. I don't really like his Load/Re-Load vocals, I think they're too clean. He sings with much more aggression on this album than anything he did from Load-St. Anger. And your comments on the instrumentation are crazy. They've stepped it up alot from their previous effort. Lars' drumming sounds like it used to, and the guitar is just as aggressively driven as it was in their early thrash days. I don't think it's as good as those earlier albums, but at least it's better than the crap they gave us after the Black Album.

Wow that was devastating, sadly this is actually my second account, smartass.
And I like Mortal Komabt, and don't care if you don't.
I was only teasing. And yes, I used to play Mortal Kombat night and day so that only makes me a hypocrite.

His voice has definitely weakened over the years. He's gotten sloppy on this album. I never said anything about his Load/Reload/St. Anger vocals, but yes they suck on those albums too. His voice hasn't been good since AJFA imo. The Black album is where he changed is vocal style

LOL opinions. You're proving my point. People are just excited that this album is better than that suckfest St. Anger. Everybody's so excited that they "stepped it up" so everyone's giving out these overly generous ratings. And the guitar is NOT as aggressively driven as in their early thrash days.

record??
i'm surprised everyone bitching about the production. of course it's overly simplistic
and slightly distorted. what else were we expecting with rubin at the helm?
one of the reasons why load/reload were boring was because they were so finely
produced.This Message Edited On 09.15.08

Really, I just overreacted the way I did because of the fanboyish way that he came back at me. I'm sure that a lot of people really think the album is great, but I do believe there are a lot of people that are just excited that it's not St. Anger or Reload Pt. 2.

Death Magnetic smokes! When I heard the damn solo in The Judas Kiss, I screamed! I havent screamed at a Metallica record since I first heard "And Justice.."
|

Wow, three Death Magnetic reviews on the front page.

I listened to their single, The Day That Never Comes and honestly, that song dragged on and on. I hope that album itself is better than that song.
|
| |
I still listen to Illinoise... it's a really really good album, what the hell were you getting at?
