Kill Em All is Metallica's heaviest, but it's more a rusty piece of thrash metal than a good one.
Also, The Black Album sort of followed the South Park situation:

no, the solos in here are quite impressive,(That Was Just Your Life, The Day That Never Comes) and just the multiple riffs in every song, props to Kirk, and ya he over-uses the wah pedal, but it's not a big deal.

This definetly surpassed all my expectations, incredible album and i'm glad to have metallica back. Favorites so far are All Nightmare Long(of course) and The Judas kiss, which has a badass chorus. Also I didn't really have a problem with kirk's solos, their thrash so I don't try to take them so seriously.

"The Day That Never Comes" reminded me of "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)". It's probably the fact both start off ballad-like and end up finishing with the signature thrash sound.

This album is boring as hell. I love how all the excited Metallica fanboys are getting pissed and defensive and saying that we're just hating on poor old Metallica when really we just have the ability to realize a boring album from a dead band trying to sound revitalized and metal again.
The only one that's actually worthwhile is The Judas Kiss. It actually had some well thought out riffs. This is about on par with the Black album which was also boring.
