natey: Meaning that you'll be browsing through a review site like rym or metal archives and every once in a while you'll run in to a person who is literally right every time and the reasons behind their ratings are flawless, etc even if you don't necessarily agree with them every time. People with good taste have heard so much music and thought about it enough so that they are usually on target with their reviews.

"on target" as in they align with your impeccable taste? my point is there is no quintessential rating an album can be giving; there is no authoritative opinion that is RIGHT
the fact is he gave the reasons he didn't like it; he didn't dig the subdued vibe coupled with what he considered 'bad flow'.
I obviously felt differently (look at my rating) but it doesn't mean it's a bad review

Oh I agree with you. Many many perspectives are right as long as they are logically argued. I was referring to people who argue their point so convincingly and legitimately you can't help but see their rating as justified, even if you'd rate it differently yourself.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if the reviewer rated the album positively and explained it in the exact same style (emotional response, etc.) you'd pos it or leave it alone.

like the guy with the caveman avatar in my streetlight review?

I wouldn't pos something like that, but yeah I'd probably just leave it alone. Actually I'd read a lot of sputnik reviews, both pos and neg, and thought they were competant, but just that. Generally the staff reviewers are a bit better but there are just so many meh reviews out there. EC I like most of your reviews, at least the ones I've read. But I wouldn't want to buy music based on some of the reviews on sputnik.

considering it's a userbase site, I wouldn't think a lot of them are meant to aside from staff and some contributors.

Good review, though I don't agree with it.

Not a bad review. I find it weird how when a guy posts a fairly bad-written review about hating Master of Puppets every one calls him a hero and galore him. The guy barely justified his opinions throughout the whole review. This review DOES justify his opinions and is fairly enjoyable. It seems like when someone posts a negative review about a popular/ mainstream band it's deemed to be amazing. But then when someone posts a negative review about an indie band its immediately neg'd. Anyways good review although I TOTALLY disagree with it, you justified your opinions WELL.
BTW: I am in no way a Metallica fan-boy (In fact I'm pretty much hate the band =P)
