This album is punk in one of the looser uses of the term. Its got the attitude, but lacks the energy of other "classic punk" albums, which is not a bad thing at all. Instead, it sums up everything that punk is about, without suffering from the boundaries that most bands seemed forced to follow. I love it because its got something for everyone. The diversity is stunning, and still is.

London Calling = an amazing song
Train In Vain is probably my favourite on the album

The Card Cheat is probably my current favorite from here.

I never really understood why so many people think this is the greatest album ever. The Clash as a reggae band was pretty good but their standout album is their UK debut. I liked Combat Rock also, that displayed a good example of The Clash as a reggae group.

Love The Clash, this is without doubt a classic album.
Apparently Paul Simonon is playing bass on Damon Albarn's rumoured new solo album

Yeah I don't really like this album but can someone explain how the Clash are reggae?
I don't know if this is a serious question but they did play a lot of reggae, maybe not enough to be a reggae band though. Most of their reggae material is on Sandinista. But they have some on every album, exept for Give 'Em Enough Rope. Reggae mmusic was an influnce on the entire band in general, though it shows through more with Joe and Paul. This Message Edited On 08.04.06

Uh, yes, try to ignore the above comment, and give it a listen if you have any interest in punk music.

I have a decent interest in punk music, but i still find this bland as hell, he might too.

I may be a little late, and may not of heard alot of the Clash - but I can answer this - punk bands around the late seventies and particularly eighties in Britain fused Punk with Ska (note there is no such genre as Reggae its a loosely used phrase that encompasses a number of Genre's including ska) - Ska came into these bands mainly around the East end of london where a large no. of Jamaican immigrants were settling to live... also see Madness, or the Specials but they were from Coventry...but still large jamaican community! This Message Edited On 08.30.06

Yup, the Two-tone times hit England with alot of ska/reggae. Most, if not all English punk or ska bands from that time have had some kind of reggae in their music.

Fair enough. But in general, this album is thought of as a classic, and I endorse your acquisition of it fully.

They remind me of the Outsiders so much for some reason.
This is one of those cds I find hard to stop even if I want to. It's weird.
