Nice review, but this is not a 4.5 imo.

pretty good album, pretty good band, but their still not hall of fame good

Half of the album is filler, yes. But "Anarchy in the UK" is pure gold. In addition, Johnny Rotten got stabbed in the hand for singing "God Save the Queen".
Hardcore? I think so.

Man i love this album, full of classics, where would punk b without the sex pistols. Made so much impact in little time.
I totally diss-agree with your submission rating though, i would give it a 4. Liar is very annoying though.
'Classic' is the word, good review 2.

This album is tremendous fun. I love it. Very funny lyrics. Its anti-establishment sentiments are so over the top. "Don't know what I want but I know how to get it, I wanna destroy the passer by!" or "There's no point in asking you'll get no reply . . . you'll always find us out to lunch, we're so pretty oh so pretty vacant!" or "God save the Queen, she ain't no human being. . . God save the queen, we mean it man, we love our queen, god saves . . ."

I don't like some of the songs as some are pretty repititious, but as for the rest, they rock!
Great rock album, IMO, not just punk

Not sure I would call this a great punk album, let alone a great (all encompassing) rock album. This Message Edited On 09.13.07

Wow. What is this?!
This album helped to define where music was heading. It helped to throw open the floodgates, it made it so nobody was afraid to say what they felt. While yes it was in Britain while everyone in the NYC scene had the Ramones and the such its still insanity that people call this overrated.
I suggest taking another listen, feel the Angst in Rotten's voice, the actual depth of the lyrics and the bleakness that they feel the present is leading them into. Just take another look at it and then try to understand why it was so revolutionary.

it sucks that the sex pistols only made one album but this one album did more for music than any other band has done for their career.

FINALLY... someone got this right... I can't believe this Album didnt even make the top 50 PUNK albums on this site! This is one of the most influential albums and bands in the last 35 years.
As someone who grew up in London in the late 70's I can promise everyone this - without this band (and the clash) we'd have been listening to the likes of REO Speedwagon and Styx well into the 2000's!!!
I know people into Punk these days weren't even a cellular reaction when the likes of the Pistols broke music open but if you're serious about Punk, remember your roots...

Nickjg, I agree with you there. Despite The Sex Pistols career being extremely short-lived, they produced a wonderful album which is raw and powerful as you were going to get, for the time anyway.
One thing I'm curious about though. What would they have produced next if they hadn't of split up so early?

I like this a lot. Most influential punk album ever.
