Calc you should check Twilight and Damnation ASAP. Both great albums in the Divine Wings vein.

Sounds inviting, since I think Divine is easily their best.

I would be 100% down for discussing this band more on Sput tho. They're a tad underappreciated around here (as is a lot of great prog metal)

Divine is their classic album for sure, but V is very close.

Damnation Game is really underdeveloped in places imo, but it has some good stuff. TiO is awesome though, especially Through the Looking Glass.

Tbh I think they're underappreciated in general, like a band which are well regarded and respected but never really in lists or common discussion which is odd considering the amount of ratings they have here especially. I really can't get down with V much, which is baffling to me since on paper I should love it.

Definitely underappreciated. Especially compared to Dream Theater and the likes.
V is my favorite, but if I remember correctly, it took me some time to get into it back in the day.

Calc I think the reason why people don't discuss these guys in the same breath as other prog metal bands is because their neoclassical element is so strong. It distinguishes them from the rest of the prog metal camp in a really huge way
It's unfortunate though because they really are one of the best bands in the genre
Damnation Game is somewhat underdeveloped but I still love it. A Winter's Dream in particular is really good.

I do love Evolution though, perfect song.

Big reason why I dig them tbh, Allen's love affair with Dio and their influence of Power Metal makes it more enjoyable for me but I can see why not so for others.

See, I don't think it's even that people don't like them as much. It's just that they sort of occupy their own scene. Like, when I think of my favourite prog metal bands, I rarely think of these guys, even though I love them to bits, and it's just because I think of them as neoclassical metal rather than prog metal if that makes any sense.

good band

yea dude they rule
|
| |
yea
they're very talented and i can appreciate the neoclassical elements in their sound but over the years my opinion of prog metal as a genre has diminished; i feel like the genre basically peaked with operation mindcrime and images & words and hasn't gone many places since. that said, every other metal band is tagged as 'progressive metal' on this site so i guess that depends

There's a ton of amazing prog metal out there, dude. Have you ever checked Pain of Salvation?
