Uneven career yeah, but he's prob the only electronic/idM artist id love to hear a greatest hits album from. Even on the albums that arent that great, theres a lot of gold. He's got so many amazing tracks.

that's just the thing. a lot of his best material is relegated to compilations, eps, and alternate monikers, and some of his worst material is branded as a proper Four Tet LP
he is such a distinct, talented producer but he just has absolutely no "edit" filter in his brain or something, his choices sometimes absolutely boggle my mind.

i mean context is important. compared to Pink, Beautiful Rewind (fight me), Rounds, 0181, burial/yorke collabs, some of his wingdings stuff etc albums like Morning/Evening and New Energy are fucking shit, yeah, but compared to like, other artists in general they are still ~good~.
It's frustrating to see artists who have consistent 4.5-5's in them releasing 2.5-3's
It's also frustrating that whenever Tet announces new music I have to have extremely tempered expectations instead of just getting swept up in hype

Yea, that makes sense... He's not a very hype artist in that sense. But in a way, that coincides with how I feel about him. Can be boring in a way, but it's always good-excellent music with moments of goddamn.

Sure, I remember being a bit surprised you couldn't get into Morning/Evening. Kind of a heritage, raga based theme for him. Thought it was excellent. I get I've probably tipped the scales .5 or so in his favor, but I think he deserves it.
