yeah, people say this four elements thing is so new and revolutionary, and those people are idiots.

The Greeks tried too hard to be like Radiohead when they are not Radiohead.

This album is epic: easily my fav of the year (for now).
Both EP's are killer (I like Water a tad bit better)
I gotta say I really dig how the Messenger builds up and then literally kicks your a** for the last 18 seconds: Those drop A riffs are killer.
Hmm like, does the production not seem loud enough sometimes or am i just talking shit?
Ya, the leak is not perfect quality. Their myspace tracks have fine volume but of course are myspace tracks.
In response to froghawk's Mastodon comments, yes I'd have to agree about Masotdon's idea except I didn't compare the music to Mastodon as much as I mentioned that Thrice has recently taken influences from post-metal type bands. The reason I don't actually compare them is because Mastodon (and Devin Townshend for that matter) both suck pretty hard.

Mastodon do not suck.
Besides that, this is a stellar release. Both discs impressed me a lot.

Mastodon not sucking makes this a little worse?

Devin Townsend and Mastodon are both much better than Thrice. So is Isis. Maybe even Deftones. -_-

Wow, kudos for the in depth review, I just downloaded it and listening to it as I'm reading the review, I can't stand the outro to Digital Sea, and I'd have to agree that Water surpasses Fire, but not by much

You guys are nuts.
Isis, Mastodon, Devin Townsend > Deftones >>> Thrice
|

um no way Deftones >>>>> Neil Young > Stravinsky >>> Thric

A little late here, but; I read your comment wrong, Confessed. Sorry about that.

Yeah, the 192kbps leak Nick has is kinda poop with volume, and it's transcode. There's a VBR scene rip of the album (i.e., CD quality) on forum.glassjaw.net in the Share Topic that has much better quality and more normal volume. Thought I'd let interested parties know.

Well, the album will be out in two days so I don't imagine people will be scrambling for better quality leaks that much. Thanks for the update though.

Also, I was wondering: what are the B-sides going to be? Thrice always has sweet B-sides. They must have some B-sides for this project considering the 24 songs that ultimately are going to make up the album.

Hrm. I'm not sure that I understand this completely, but I think that if you click on the white circle on the Thrice Myspace page, you hear a bunch of song excerpts from probably all of the Alchemy Index albums. Since I'm not a long-time fan or anything, these might just be from other albums of theirs, but just in case, there's a glimpse of what kind of music the other "two" releases will be. What I found to be kinda odd is that one of the songs kinda sounds like it's live.
Also, among those, I think I heard a cover of a Frodus song that was featured in their listening party.
EDIT: The song that I believe that they're covering is "The Earth Isn't Humming."This Message Edited On 10.14.07

Haha I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the Frodus song "Out Circuit the Ending." I had the same discussion at punknews.org. I doubt that's a cover though. They probably just lifted ideas from Frodus. I know Ed is a fan of Frodus, No Knife, and other similar bands.

I don't know... Just try hearing it! The similarity is crazy!
EDIT: Also, the only Frodus songs I've heard before are just the ones that was posted in the Listening Party, and the one you mentioned isn't there. It's the whole "faaall down" thing that sounds similar. Also, after listening to that sample thing on the Myspace and the Frodus song, it's just waaaay too much of a coincidence to not be a cover or possibly audio from a live concert that Thrice may have been at with Frodus? This Message Edited On 10.15.07

I was really skeptical about this, but it's awesome on first listen. "The Flame Deluge" slays.
