i like this album. its certainly not bad or even mediocre. the songwriting is fairly good throughout.

is it a "hard rock" record? yeah, it is. so what Foo Fighter's are a hard rock band with an alternative edge. i don't personally care for them as its not my thing and they tend to be....underwhelming. they are a fairly basic band. nothing wrong with that, nothing right with it. but whatever the case to my ears and on its own this album is good. good songwriting + good production + good performances = good album in this case imo. its not great, but its far from trash. whatever anyone's expectations...This Message Edited On 10.03.07

well no, the sound hasn't changed. nor has the formula. if it was a better formula that would be fine. but its a limited one at best.

i don't think john was unfair with the album. it was a solid review and his opinions carry merit. some of us are more critical about certain things.

I, for one, like this review.

My download of the album is 86.8% done, so I should have a sound off by tonight.

I bought the cd Wednesday. I personally think it's one of their best. I own the colour and the sound, and it never could get me. It had a few really good songs, but I could never get into the whole album.

This album is much better. I like the Foo's, not a huge fan, but I don't love them or anything. I just really like the cd. There's a lot of catchy melodies I like, and I really like the song Let it Die.
Aren't reviews supposed to be from an objective standpoint, or source? This review is ridiculous. You need to get a staff reviewer who wasn't going in thinking it was bad before he even listened to it. Absolute bias my friend.
You rated this a 5?! Not even The Colour and the Shape is worth a five in my eyes...

I'm only on my second spin and I liked it better the second time. There is some real good material on this album. There are a few within the album that I may need a bit more time with and I may really get into them. I like most of it alot and I don't hate any of it. It's certainly a worthy effort from those fighters of foo!

Iluvatar, I agree with you 100%, this album is shit, the Foos have been making shit for a few years now, and nothing changes the fact that they pumped out an average at best piece. I won't even rate it, couldn't get past the 5th track, it was too much.

Dave Grohl *was* a great song writer and drummer/guitarist, whatever. I was a die hard Foos fan back in the day, but since 'In Your Honor' they've been phoning their albums in.

Happy you stood by your opinion, more power to ya man.

I wasn't sure of this album at first, but being a huge foo's fan I now really like it and reckon its their strongest since The Colour And The Shape. Come Alive is my favourite song.

And yeah I'm with the last guy, where do we get these unbiased ears?

seems like a rushed album IMO. Really disappointing for them.

The album is a lot like Fruit Stripe gum. The first few tracks get you excited, then all of a sudden.....

I wouldnt give it a 2.5, IMO. When i first listened, the acoustic and softer track bored me, but i started to like them after a few listens.

I hate how the Foo Fighter's best songs are always the singles, while the remainder of the album is sauce of the weak variety (though they certainly aren't the only band guilty of this bait-n-switch). Quite a shame, because I think Let It Die is their best song yet.

It all fits! the album just flows so incredibly well,

there really isn't a bad song on here. it shows range,

increased musicianship, and passion that I haven't seen since TCATS. I'm giving it a five because I want the average to go up where it should be... around a 4... maybe higher

Ugh man don't do that for real...don't like the Foo to much anymore...this album didn't really make me like them again, though The Pretender is enjoyable
