ugh Nile is one of the most average, if not THE most average bands I have ever listened to.

Nile isn't exactly what I would call average. Pre-Stench of Redemption Deicide and anything Cannibal Corpse has done would be more "average" than Nile ever has been close to.

Either way, I still think this album sounds badass and I can't wait to get it.

Deicide's first two albums = legendary. And Nile is average.

Yeah, but when something defines a genre and sets a standard, there are inevitably going to be bands that exceed that standard...by alot.

Like, for example, Cannibal Corpse did the super-gory thing first, but Gorerotted and Aborted do it 10x better because they write songs that exceed standards set by Cannibal Corpse. Not to say CC is really "bad", it's just that when something defines a genre it is inherently going to be generic.

Not to say that Deicide and whatnot aren't good, because they started something new altogether, but bands like Nile, to me, far exceed the standards set by Deicide and other founding death metal acts. Even though Nile and etc didn't invent the genre they play, they do it better.

Nile isn't average... Deicide is actually more average.

I'm listening to this now. It reminds me of Children of Bodom with symphonies instead of keyboard solos, which is a cool change I suppose. I'll rate it when I'm done.

No. Not even slightly, Peccatum is mostly boring.

I really like this. I'm a little disappointed by how little the concept is actually used, though.

Yeah, I could see that. But it's more of a theme than a concept. I need the actual booklet now though, so I can actually read the lyrics as opposed to having to listen for them.

This (besides their first two discs and a Venom tribute) is their most musically straightforward disc. I highly recommend Imaginary Sonicscape, I think you'd dig it.
