I'm just getting into Torchbearer now and I'm very impressed. I find Blinded Colony pretty average and somewhat boring. I'm definitely not interested in Sonic Syndicate. To me, they're like In Flames - Lite with crappy metalcore-esque vocals.

The bass in Nothing to No One is h-e-a-v-y. Not sure what to give this yet though...I just got this and Character.

Both are about even i'd say. I go back and forth between which I think is better. Character has the best DT song (Lost to Apathy) but also has some filler, of which this album has none.

The Gallery might be better than both of these though thb.

Best cd of 2007 so far, although Hangman's Hymn can make a case. I'm close to giving Fiction a 5 after giving repeated listens. Fiction and Character are both equally sick.

Gallery is amazing throughout but not as good as Character. Martin Brandstrom made Dark Tranquillity 10 x better.

I liked DT better without the keyboards, but they're still great with them. The Gallery and The Mind's I are fuckin monsters, DT will never create masterpieces like them again.

Thing is, I said that becacuse i heard Character and parts of Haven and Damage Done before buying The Gallery. I became used to the whole atmospheric part being involved with Dark Tranquillitys work. Now, I should have bought The Gallery first so I could have appreciated it more than their more recent works.

I bought Damage Done and Character first.... the stuff without keyboards is 100 times better because the melodies are all from the guitars, not 70% from keyboards and 30% from guitars.

The Gallery was my first from the band. I went to FYE, and the only albums they had were The Gallery and Character from them. Tough choice, but I ended up getting The Gallery cuz it was older...I ended up downloading Character about a month later.

I bought "The Gallery" with money to spend on a random cd. I was planning on buying Hatebreeder or Colony, then for some reason I saw "The Gallery" and bought it although I never heard of it at the time. I sometimes regret it because I dont have a real copy of Colony. It's still an awesome disk, it just took some time to grow on me.

The keyboards are my favourite part of their sound.

i gave this a 4 because i really really love the instrumental aspect of this album. but i have the same beef i have with character. theres too much growling. i mean maybe its just me but i see the vocals as an instrument too, think of how the album would sound if the guitarist only riffed, and there were no melodies or solos....you would question the guitarists abilities. Im the same with the vocalist. granted there IS some clean vocals on this album, i still get bored of the monotonous growling. thats the ONLY thing that puts me off DTs stuff sometimes.

Stanne has some of the greatest vocals in the genre, nor are they tiring. Drumming is excellent, keyboards are amazing, and the guitars are heavy crunch.

Stanne is one of the best vocalists in Metal. His clean voice is stupid in comparison to his growls.

i agree. which is why i think his use of the vocal instrument is somewhat poor. unfortunate that he cant use it too well, cos the band is freaking awesome, i keep saying it but the same monotonous growls bore me. theres melody in the music, none on the vocals. shame.

This is definitely better than Character if you ask me. It just took until now to realize it.

Character is an amazing album. So is this. Neither one is better to me though. Both 4.5's, just great stuff. Each album has their own best's.
