The last time that a record was released and the general consensus from critics and the public alike was it was one of the greatest albums ever made.
The change in boundaries was tangible, the future of where music would now go was filled with apprehension and excitement as everything was shifted. The rules changed.
Then Kid A came out and 85% of people were disappointed as fuck cos it was total bollocks.

There was a real sense of confusion when it came out, from what I can remember it was ‘appreciated’ but definitely not loved and a lot of fans from the Bends days just thought they were being total wankers. The band had lost the plot.

yeah i remember it was a tumultuous time, but it seemed to me for everybody who didn't like it there were 5 people who thought it was like the second coming. i thought it was stellar on release though

I definitely thought Kid A was a pile of shite when I first heard it
Except Idioteque, always knew that was a 10/10 certified banger even if it wasn’t what I wanted from Radiohead
|
| |
Idioteque is easily the most jarring song on the record lol
|
| |
ftfy hppier
|
| |
Idioteque rips but it’s still one of the tougher songs to approach as a noob, unlike something like How to Disappear or Optimistic which are more immediate
|
| |
I had a roommate storm into my room while I was jamming idioteque and he forced me to turn it off because he said it was too eratic
|
| |
I thought the whole album was just… weird until this one day in my college dorm room I threw it on and started humming to the odd melodies in the T/T and then the whole record just hit me like a fuckin train. Easily Radiohead’s best, top 5 album no doubt
|
| |
i think Idioteque was the track that made 15 y/o me a radiohead believer tbh. had never heard anything like it at the time, got a lil bit obsessed for a few months
