Apparently SBS was literally the first Sabbath album to be praised by critics.

"Upon its release on 1st December, 1973, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath began achieving a feat that had, for the previous four albums and three years, eluded the Birmingham metal maestros Black Sabbath. It started getting good reviews."

Nice, funny to see now how they're all hailed as classics but were received so poorly back then.

Yeah the general consensus changing so dramatically over time seems to be common thing with late 60's/70's 'classics'.

In the Wake of Poseidon was seen as a big improvement over In the Court of the Crimson King back at the time of its release from what I've heard. Now look...

Agree, led zep and deep purple experienced that too. Hard to imagine someone saying that in regards to king crimson with a straight face today :]

it's a lot more common than we might think, and not only in music

sadder still are the bands that we exhume today on the internet and are like yo check this bro it's a hard 4.5 but they disbanded like 20 years ago cuz no one gave a shit about them

although admittedly that tends to happen more in metal

I dunno, i don't navigate king crimson threads much ahah. Just talking from what i've heard in regards to both albums, only heard in the court anyway.

It's far from a common opinion these days, at least on Sput, I'm just saying that I personally like Poseidon as much as if not more than Court so the opinion that the former is better isn't that crazy to me.

Sabotage is very underrated. I was never big on it at first but its found its way into my top 3.

@Nero I found myself liking Sabotage better than Vol. 4 at least.

vol. 4 is the weakest of the classics imo, unless you count mob rules as a classic

From what i can remember, it has to be at least a 3.5 for me. Maybe a 4 even if i'm on a good mood.
