I like the sound-off where the guy complains about being charged through the nose for the CD version - is the limited edition really that expensive?... but then states they've only listened to 3 tracks/slapped a 2.5 on it. Nice.

This album is boring as fuck. Then again I’ve never been a Tool fan. Except for Stinkfist. All hail Stinkfist.

Aenima and Lat are both 5s. I don’t think this is one, but it’s too soon to say anyways. 10K has some of their best individual songs but also more filler than usual. It doesn’t quite come together as an album. Opiate is raw alt metal fun. Can’t go wrong with this band, I love all of their records but 10K is probably worst for me. Aenima to me catches the best of all worlds for these guys, it’s progressive and challenging but also features very coherent songwriting and captures the last bits of their youthful aggression.

This definitely feels like more of a followup to Lateralus than 10K did though.

10K has a lot of good songs, but yeah, it never felt cohesive as an album the way the rest of their albums do.

The individual songs hold it up for me, cohesion be damned. :-P

limited edition at regular price was only $40-45 which was well worth for all of the love put into it imo.

the scalper prices are ridiculous though.

Disagree, Aenima is way more subtle in its progressive tendencies than Lateralus or this. I personally have been discovering more and more little details on that album without fail for 15 years, while Lateralus kind of puts its ideas more obviously out there. I used to rate Lat above, but changed my mind relatively recently.

Yea the CD is only about $40 normally, if anyone paid more than that they’re stupid. It’s worth the original price though, the packing is super high-quality with a 36-page booklet with amazing artwork and an HD screen and speaker inside the case that plays some surreal video stuff. There’s even a charge port and cable included lol

People are losing their minds a lot less over than over the typical tepid Sputnik hive mind flavor of the month indie or post hardcore record tbh. This is objectively a very skillfully constructed album, and the rest is just subjective enjoyment so whatever

This band established a blueprint for two main types of song on Aenima (Eulogy and Aenema) then maybe one more on Lateralus (Schism) and close to 90% of the rest of everything since Aenima sounds somewhat close to one of those three tunes.

"I used to rate Lat above, but changed my mind relatively recently." I will take that opinion into account on further listens...but I'm extremely skeptic about it X)

agreed with doof. i know people apparently hate the word 'homogeneous' (probably because it so perfectly describes their favourite artists), but yeah, basically a one-trick pony here. heard it twice through. definitely not a bad album but pretty i just don't get the appeal

oooh...but it is homogeneous...I just took some users as sensitive people and then just suddenly they turn to some bacon&sausage rednecks with some bands. Like I get Doof's perspective on the new Slipknot...not on this though.
