I have a friend who gave this record a 5 but says that he's found something that chews this up and spits it out and stomps all over it. Calls it "Earth shattering ." I've been scratching ny head for days trying to figure out what could he better than this but he won't tell me haha.

same about w&b Chan, instant chills when he starts going off.

But yeah, this and B,S are gonna be tied as my favorites from them. I can’t even believe that yet

re: Wendy & Betsy I feel the same way about wishing it would go on forever, but I'm glad it doesn't. It always leaves you wanting more which is what makes it so addicting.

I have but one gripe with this entire album. Why couldn't they have faded Michael into Break On Through instead of having such an abrupt transition? In fact a few of the tracks here could have just organically washed into each other but instead they feel severed. Whatever though, I'm not an artist.

I honestly really became aware of that one or two listens ago and felt the same thing. Although, the hard ending continues to add to the jarring nature of Michael

Q: I have but one gripe with this entire album. Why couldn't they have faded Michael into Break On Through instead of having such an abrupt transition?

A: [Untitled] is lost, and a lot of the disorienting musical and lyrical concepts feel to me like the equivalent of Weiss throwing up his arms and admitting that he doesn't have any more answers for us...there's an emptiness in Aaron's world that he's trying to symbolize...

Or, to not be so cheeky

(and I'll talk a lot about this in my review - only eight more days guys - EP tomorrow - how am I only going to be the second review at this pace?)

mewithoutYou, until this record, is a band that has based every single record off of a concept, some more loose than others. This is their first record without a concept. Or, in other words, the concept of this record is that it's concept-less. The abrupt/anti-climatic nature of Break on Through speaks directly to the fragmentation that is present in this work. I think that plays a lot to why it is such a stirring, but jarring, piece.

"Yeah that guy is back, and along with that weird face he just keeps saying 'King of Spain, Queen of Portugal' under his breath over and over. He also has super basic coffee preferences."

Realistically, this is closer to a 4, after a good 50 spins or so. And that's only due to the strength of the band's past releases. While enjoying this, I've delved back into the back catalog, and I find [untitled] to be slightly lacking compared to 2 or 3 (or even 4) of the previous albums.

Not sure what it is...perhaps I find the production a little odd. Missing some of the quirks and idiosyncrasies that I loved. Not feeling Michael much at all, either.

Still think it's a great album, but feel I'd be doing a disservice to B,S, CFOTF, TS, and PH by claiming this is in any way better than them.

I think that's fair. Will Yip came in and took a sledgehammer to their sound after Ten Stories, and I'm personally a big fan of the move. I think the darker and more caustic vibe gives mewithoutYou an exhilarating edge that's rarely ever found in a band's latter stages. But, there was a light-heartedness and wit to the band's sound that extended past just Aaron's lyrics in B,S, It's All Crazy..., and even Ten Stories that has gone missing, and if that's what drew you in the most, then there would definitely be an absence felt.
