El-P has stated that he knows what he is doing and wouldn't end up like what you predicted, Pots, but only time can tell.

well i mean what artist is going to openly admit "i have no idea what da fuck i'm doing right now" when their music loses its flare lol

but i get what you're saying

also, on the other hand, i do think el-p knows what he's doing. even if he's lost my interest, he is on to something thats getting a lot of people ALL kinds of riled up. so good for him. even if i hate it hahaha.

oh yeah, its undeniable that his production is great. its just that while the beats are well produced, they are super homogenous and non of them get me going like anything on literally any of the albums he produced pre c4c/rap music

who are you and what have you done with silentpotato

I think this album is pretty obviously a lazy attempt at satisfying fans demand for another coab, rather than any reflection of what is to come out of future albums from either of them.

You say a lot of people really dig this, but I don't think so. No one really connects to this type of music that much, the extreme case was probably Aids writing that 3000 word loveletter/review and he even admitted it was shallow until the last track.

No one has to connect to anything to dig something

i just had a thought

el-p is in a sense pulling a reverse flying lotus

both artists are at a point where they feel their vision is clearer than ever and they know exactly what they are doing and their execution is flawless

however, where flylo started with a broad casual following of all stretches (think los angeles) and moved away from that with cosmo and until the quiet comes in favour of a more refined flavour that earned him the die hard fans and carved out a distinct niche while losing some of the more casual audience, el-p did the opposite

he started with this specialized niche of die hards and broadened and did a supreme job at refining his sound into something palatable for a much larger audience and thus, while maybe losing some of the old die hards, has gained a much bigger crowd of people that may have never been familiar with his earlier work

so both are killing it in exactly the way they want to be killing it, i just prefer the way flylo is killin it

but to really dig something you are probably gonna have to connect to it in some way more than finding the beats catchy and the lyrics fun

Naw Lambs, i disagree. El-p is at another creative peak. I do agree on your points on the albums subject matter

That sums up a 3.5 for me, an album that is kickass and enjoyable but means nothing to me

lazy was the wrong word to use.

'rushed' might be better. I mean he took like 5 years between his other albums, he just didn't put his creative genius into this one (as much) and seems to me to just have been giving a free treat to fans (which is the opposite of lazy).

and seems to me to just have been giving a free treat to fans

seems to me that the treat was catered a lot more to people that weren't already long term fans, most people i know that LOVE his new work aren't people that have been repping cold vein, funcrusher, and fantastic damage for years
