Obzen had a lot more creativity and technicality than this.

hey guys, i love meshuggah, and i have listened to this a lot. its grown on me for quite a while. the production is great, the vocals are great. but what else is good about this?? i honestly don't get the appeal? its decent, but definitely not deserving of a 5. they've definitely ventured into new territory a bit, with the swung songs, more minimalistic rhythms etc. but there are barely any moments that stand out at all. the riffs and grooves just seem so tame to me. it just seems like a generic meshuggah cover band to me. i'm just curious as to what is so enjoyable about it?

Start with Obzen and work your way backwards: Catch 33, Nothing (Remaster), Chaosphere, DEI

They should teach Meshuggah in schools instead of Maths.

its funny you say that, coz i just guitar/bass/drum tabbed out a large portion of rational gaze on guitar pro earlier coz i was bored and procrastinating. its a truly amazing song when you break it down. i always thought that in this song the intro riff pattern was just ever-changing through the 8 bar cycle, but its just the one short 25/16 phrase repeated a bunch of times with a little 3/16 fill at the end.
