This is beyond pretenious, Dr's right on that remark. A few times on this record it just goes too far, especally 'Finally Free'. I wished the album in 'The Spirit Carries On' because I hate that track.

Wouldn't have listened to this album so much either, but as said, the lyrics and conceptual theme was a reason why I stuck with it for so long. I just find his voice extremely mundane, and while the music is mind-blowing technically, I found that dull as well.

Oh yeah, LaBrie's voice is very hit and miss. If i didn't listen to this as a kid, I probably would have hated his voice

His voice is probably least annoying on this

His voice became too much after Six Degrees.

On I&W James kinda ruled, minus that awkward first verse on Take the Time which sticks out like a sour thumb for me.

Surrounded is probably the best example of what Labrie could have still done with his voice because there's a good balance in that. Not to be sadly, as he prefers to wail his way through new albums

Not taking his ability to sing away from him, mind, it's just not for me.

All prog metal vocalists of this time sung in this style

@Choccy: He was amazing on Surrounded, shame he's dissolved to what he is now :/

@Dr: He hasn't got the most charming of tones, main reason why people don't like him really.

Yeah, and I don't like a lot of prog from that time either, for that reason. ha

Fuck metal trends. They don't do anything good after their initial surfacing

Must be an instrumental thing that most get off on then, Calc?

Gonzo, he has some great moments too, but they're just no longer present in their last 4 albums I'd say and it highlights how uncharismatic his vocals can be

@Dr: Pretty much. Despite this in I&W and Awake the songwriting was top notch (especally I&W) and Metropolis has alot of awesome moments despite it's tendency to go overboard. I do like James though pre TOT (although I don't like James at a few moments on this), and was awesome in Images and A Change of Seasons.
