The Misshapen Steed sounds like something straight out of Zelda: Twilight Princess or something it's so good. Everything else is

awesome too.

Agreed and it's slotted so perfectly between the epic opening tracks and the rest.

My soul was the pale skyline that she stretched across the horizon. Two years had brought the fire that she paints upon my loathsome canvas.

I SAW THE NIGHTFALL!

This is my least favorite of the 3 Agalloch classics, it's still great though. It's also completely insane

as a debut LP.

My pc's accidentally started this while on the subway with -9°C and snow falling down. So good. Then one questions how it's possible that their last two discs are soooo disappointing

they're just human, all too human. every artist with a perfect body of work tends to ruin it at some point. the only exception being artists who kill themselves early enough.

over the mantle?

Very easily, even though I've 5'd the mantle as well. This one has a better atmosphere and better melodies IMO and is heavier, which I like more. Plus as has been said ad infinitum "as embers dress the sky" is hands down the best song they've ever made. The clean guitar in that song is nothing less than perfection.
