I think I know why chunks of this album just feel ‘flat’ to me. When you listen to Aenima in particular, Adam gives a lot of tracks a natural ambience by manipulating feedback and volume (think of the bridges in Pushit). Just listen to that extended chug section in Warrior as an example of the opposite of this; there’s just absolutely no chemistry there, no modulation of sound or texture. It sounds like they’ve just pasted the instruments together for a rhythm exercise. I had the same problem with 10K Days, too. It sounds two dimensional.
