Well they still managed to pull out a Crack the Skye after this. It was after that when things started to... soften... a bit.

Had this on repeat when I was going through a devastating break up.

Break up 5!

what a bizarre break up album! this record for me is so internal and archaic and animalic and terrestrial and nature-y and, you know, far far far away from something that makes me think outwardly about other people

but enough about me i'm gonna go dig through your 5's critically and see what i haven't listened to yet

It's an album about being lost in the wilderness and trying to move forward. Confusion and self-doubt, having to conquer the unknown to survive. If it was at the end of an important relationship, I can see this being parallel to that experience.

This is a great album. I love the music as well as the concept behind it. Probably the most compelling concept of Mastodon's "big three".

the concept of the album works for that, definitely. some tracks on remission sound real romantic, to me, particularly ol' nessie, that's a strange sort of mournful tearjerker

You nailed it there Seven. I grew up with the girl, basically from my 20s to my 30s. Suddenly she is not part of my world anymore, I lose my job and I am in a different country.

There was also a lot of wilderness involved since I ended up in some remote village in Canada haha

No budg, the other way round, I moved from Spain to Canada and then some months after to Japan. That was back in... summer of 2009.
