There's still plenty of cool music these days, maybe not as much as before but I think there's still a good amount of new bands, I'd say the problem goes with the fact that in the past the mainstream music had quality while these days that kind of music stands on a rather obscure or underground scene, or at least not as popular as the most successful "artists" of the present

"rock" as the typical definition of the term yeah, might be dead, there are however bands with influence of rock or even from totally different genres that can create music on the same league as older releases.
Radiohead, Godspeed, Casualties of Cool, RAtM, BoC, Kindo, Sigur Ros, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, etc are all examples of post-1990 bands that created music of great quality.
As the classic definition of "rock" might be dead, at some extent I think it is for the better, you can't just keep milking the same style for decades expecting it to be good, so I'm glad newer sounds or genres have been created these years (that has nothing to do with the fact that newer MAINSTREAM music tends to be pretty average though). There are, however some cool, unknown acts that have big influences from older rock that rule hard like Egonon or Gazpacho

By he way Guitarded Chuck, yes you do, great songs come from banging hookers and doing blow, many bands made a career out of it

Yeah, but he meant you don't need to do it to be a rockstar, you can be one without all of that, which is true

All the facile stuff wears thin after 5 mins.
Rock stars in the sense of coked up big heads straddling the stage getting the audience to clap and 'yeah, wooh yeah' their way through a 3hr stadium set say nothing and mean even less.
The ones who make you stand up, take notice and think are the real deal. There's probably been about 14 in history.

I mean yeah he's good obviously but the amount of attention he gets for being an outstanding guitarist is not warranted imo. but yes he is talented and a good player.

The straight media don't know who else to give the praise to and they have to give it to somebody, so he is pretty harmless now and the mainstream have heard of him so that is why
