i find myself listening to pornog more because of the length. depends on how much time i have to listen to the full record. plus, homesick kinda drags a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitle bit, probably because its towards the end of the album and the previous three tracks set the bar too high for it, and untitled is a (musically) lighter sounding song, making it feel more fresh after the run of darker songs from fascination street onward (despite lyrically being robert smith at this breaking point).
wheras on pornog, you get sucked into the atmosphere right away and gradually escalate to the title track, which is one of the greatest album closers ive ever heard to any record

This is the only Cure album I really enjoy a lot, they're a 'hits' band - even on the moody atmospheric albums there's usually two (maybe 3) songs that stand out as faaaaaaaar superior to everything else
It's not that big a bitch because they've released about 20 albums so you can just cherry pick the worthwhile stuff and you've got three albums worth of excellent material.

I think people who listen to The Cure fit in two categories:
- those who love Smith's vox/shtick to an incredibly deep degree and thus worship nearly everything they released.
- those who think Smith isn't a technically great singer but when the band's writing is on top form it works, when it doesn't it gets mildly tiresome.
I'm in the latter camp but I see what the first group are getting from the band

Onion I've checked all the stuff up to 'Disintegration' after starting with that album and I honestly was expecting them to become a favourite band on the strength of their rep on those earlier albums - they're never less than 'good' but they also never get close to the magic found on this album barring a handful of songs for me

I meant they have definite classics and especially this album is just about perfect. On their weaker albums I can agree they have a few songs that stand above the others. Like underneath the stars, this is a lie, and alt.end

I love Smith's vox but I don't worship the band or anything. I still find them an aquired taste more than anything
