just got this and Aenima for 2 for $20 at HMV. Gave this a thorough listen and I definately didn't give it enough credit back in the day. Probably cause I only listened to a couple songs and didn't have the musical knowledge or patience to listen to songs like Reflection. That was so good. Bumping this up. Now onto Aenima.

They are both great but this is about .3 higher for me (over Ænima that is).

I don't know, after checking out both I just can't edge one over the other. They're both phenomenal.

This one seems to be a little more Ethereal and yet hits me a little deeper than Ænima. I think Ænima is a better rock album but I think this is a better album over all. Lateralus has a lot of nuances that you don't pick up on at first but then catch more and more with every listen. It's the album that keeps on giving imo. Ænima is like that as well but not nearly as much so.

Hmm I see what you mean. Their sound definately seems more refined on Lateralus, but there are so many great songs off Ænima I just can't choose.

"Their sound definately seems more refined on Lateralus"

That and just a little more technique. Manard fades into the background a little and really becomes one of the instruments. He is way more refined in this album... again imo.

Agree with the last few posts. Lateralus, throughout the album as a whole is just fucking genius. Ænima (and to a lesser extent, 10000 days) have awesome tracks but less of an overall consistency to them.

I know what you mean, man. As cliché (sic) as it may sound, this album made me rethink what music is all about. Album/band is still an influence in the way I'm thinking drums/guitar/bass or when I'm recording some music.
