To me, these guys are what I always wanted BTBAM to be
Chaotic heaviness but with more focus on core and cool tempo/time signature switches than noodling blended with beauty but with more focus on atmospherics and vocals than melodic noodling
Also a far more even balance of the two sounds where BTBAM focus more on the harsh

Agreed on BTBAM, except Loathe trim the fat of too much prog influence that BTBAM suffer from

The heavy stuff is just straight up heavy and it's the best part of this album.

Screw it. 5. I've spun this record too much since its release, it's probably a sign.

This is a very influential and genre pushing album from these guys. I see a lot of complaints being about this either sounding similar to the deftones, and/or having heavier songs that aren’t that same deftones-influenced sound lmao.
I’m not much of a deftones fan but I have a solid 20+ years of broad rock/metal exposure, so I like to think that I have a good grasp on how fresh a new release in the whole rock/metal genre is. That said- Obviously Loathe’s sound isn’t for every sput user, but the obnoxious amount of deftones love/hate comparisons to this album has really diminished conversations regarding this albums success and creativity imo
If you’re not a fan of shoe-gazey/deftones influenced rock AND ridiculously heavy Metalcore (I could list 5+ sub metal genres from this album alone), then why knock it lol

Sput is one of the only places on I’ve seen a sizable amount of people/users go out of their way to knock this album lol

My drunk ass made that novel of a comment last night… not sure of what point I was trying to make. Classic sput user saying “I’ve heard music before and I like this, so this is objectively good”. Grammar looks pretty good tho tbh

I think the next album will be decisive on how these guys career goes now.
Losing a key songwriter is always a blow, but losing a key songwriter when they’re right on the verge of blowing up is a big risk.
I think the cohesion argument against Loathe makes sense, but personally I love their heavy side and I love their gaze side even more so I forgive the clunky changes.
If they can find a way to tie the two sides together better like on Sad Cartoon then they could become my all-time favourite metal act.

I actually find myself skipping to the heavy songs in the gym these days, when back when this dropped in listened to the entire album. But some songs don't go hard enough these days for me (in a gym setting)
