yeah seems pretty perfect considering the last line of the record. Almquist said both EP and LP were originally self-titled which is pretty wild

1,000 Years? With Ears to Hear? Feel like it would need to be something from Break On Through if it was a lyric from the the album.

Bowlermicah, The Doors Pt. 2 would obviously be the correct record name in this scenario.

'it's honestly kinda hard to jam with the lyrics. At least the first half of the album'
Considering I've heard this probably 15 times now, I think I'll be okay. That's kind of why I have waited, among other things.

Also, I would have been cool with self-titled releases.

There's a couple things I'd like to say about the title. (1) It ideally represents this record; it embodies all the traits of mwY over the years and plays almost like a greatest hits. A self-titled release would have also made sense if it weren't for my second point - (2) The album is in many ways about Aaron's identity/existential crisis. There was an interview/video somewhere (I'll have to track it down to validate my point) where Weiss said something along the lines of feeling like he's said everything that he needs to say by now. [Untitled] is lost, and a lot of the disorienting musical and lyrical concepts feel to me like the equivalent of Weiss throwing up his arms and admitting that he doesn't have any more answers for us. In a lot of ways the album is more about asking questions. To title the album mewithoutYou implies confident identity; [Untitled] portrays the opposite. It's an ellipses. There's an emptiness in Aaron's world that he's trying to symbolize through the title, and to call it anything at all would be a disservice. The title might as well literally be blank, not even titled [Untitled], as such.

I like all that reasoning, but the whole "Untitled" thing still just feels so overdone. It's not unique anymore, and these guys are really good at being unique in most ways. So it comes off as kinda lazy.

Also, I'm still not a fan of the album art. Just doesn't look like "mewithoutYou", even though the same guy did it. The color scheme doesn't really fit their persona, imo.

@sowing Brooklyn Vegan interview I believe, says essentially that he used to think he had a bunch of important stuff to say, but now he feels like no one should really care what he thinks. lends to his identity crisis thing i think

that was probably it brofro
and @buttboy part of me agrees with you about the idea that they could have conveyed the 'untitled' idea more uniquely - but I also can't think of a better way off the top of my head
also I disagree about the album art...it may not "look like" a mwy cover but the way it goes from a tightly woven ball of energy to falling apart totally embodies the entropy and chaos of this record vs the quiet composure/togetherness of the EP

Look at the album art next to the Ten Stories one ; that's what it took for it to click for me. The colours and positioning look very similar.

@ButtBoy - I agree with you. While I do like the concept of the EP's wound up depiction into an unleashed explosion of mayhem, it doesn't really fit their or the album's aesthetic. Kick ass album though so who really cares.

yeah I appreciate the symbolism between the two. Just wish it could've been done a little differently. Oh well, it's the music that really matters so wgaf.

I like the art a lot. Excited for my prints. May get a double-sided frame so I can put them back to back and display whichever I'm feeling.
