SPirit has a good point. Both Testament and Megadeth tried to shamelessly ape the Black album. Its funny how Mustaine claims to hate Metallica so much, but if you watch Megadeth's career arc, they absolutely copied Metallica at every turn, at least until the late 90s.

I think Metallica reached the ceiling for a heavy act but proved it was there and it was impenetrable.

They also showed a lot of metal fans wanted to stay in THEIR CLUB and felt threatened/unhappy - and that proved problematic for Metallica and any successful metal band since.

A metal band can never be truly mainstream without losing the ‘metal’ stamp of approval. ‘Load’ was kinda a disaster...though it still sold ok I guess.

When this record dropped, 27 years ago was 1964. Basic math, but kind of blows my mind when I think about it. In 1991, I thought anything from 1964 was old AS FUCK

Yeah I always do that relative jump back thing dude. Think of all the unbelievable stuff that was created from 64-91. Then look at 91-18 and weep.

I know this now, I actually really rate the '80s - boasts three of my top 10 albums and wouldn't be surprised to see that number increase.

You two of all people should know how important the 80s were in creating the mainstream rock sound of the 90s. Kurtis Cobain took a bit of inspiration, as did these clowns.
