I don't think anyone is really going to care all that much if you don't like Tool.

I mean, I sure don't.

fallenbro they don't even sound that much like Tool but yea you should listen to em

check Themata. I'm with Ec as well, I like it better than Sound Awake... better riffs, better vocal melodies and hooks. It's much more immediate.

Funny I think Sound Awake is more passionate but we're all entitled to our questionable opinions! :D

I still think Themata is better than Sound Awake, but that's just me. [2]

I like Sound Awake a little bit more, but Themata is not too far behind it.

Both are awesome albums but i give the edge to Sound Awake by a bit. Sound Awake is a genuine 10/10 for me. No song on that albums is less than amazing (ok, maybe The Medicine Wears Off but that doesn't count). Themata is fantastic and filled with awesome songs but doesn't have the scope or epicness of SA.

My rating of the albums - Themata - 9/10 Sound Awake - 10/10 Asymmetry - 7.5/10.

I'm looking forward to next year when they (most likely) debut new material live. I'm really interested to hear what it sounds like.

They've been posting montage videos of their European tour and the latest video shows them recording a fair bit. Also at the very end hoss talks about wine and you can hear Kenny singing something in the background. I'm guessing it's from a new song.

And yeah, I just realised that next year it's ten years since Themata was released. Maybe they'll do one of those tours where they play it in full?

I don't think I've had a song ascend my Last.fm most played list so fast as I did with "Eidolon". Album's barely been out almost a year and this freakin song is my third most played ever, in competition with songs I've been listening to avidly since I joined that site 6 years ago. Ridiculous, man I want these guys to make something again soon.

It's subtly catchy and the bass in it is awesome.

I've also realised that Kenny is actually singing a Stone Temple Pilots song in that video lol.

what can be worse than a bunch of punks who want to sound like Converge.

...a bunch of so called prog rockers who are die-hard Tool wannabes

the reason why I don't listen to much Karnivool is the same as why I don't listen to mathcore besides

Converge Botch and TDEP, nor risecore besides TDWP and AA!.

I mean.. why the hell would I (or anyone) listen to a watered-down ripoff when you can enjoy the

original?

Karnivool are influenced by Tool but influence doesn't equal rip off. You can also hear influences from bands like Meshuggah, Radiohead, Soundgarden etc. I've never heard a Karnivool track and had that 'this sounds like it could be a Tool song' feeling you get from a band like Soen.

And honestly, i prefer Sound Awake to any of Tool album.

Sound Awake is more or less my favourite ever album, with Deadman being my favourite ever song. With that in mind, this is a pretty good album, but it took ages to get my head round it. A.M. War went from being one I just couldn't understand to 'in my top 5 Vool songs', but it's taken a good year. Aeons has stuck with me though.

I was just listening to this on shuffle, and I think it's way better in a different order and with the interludes cut out.

Definitely agree about A.M War. I hated it when i first listened to the album. It was just too chaotic, noisy and awkward to listen to. But the more i listened to the album the more it grew on me and now i love how chaotic and abrasive it is.

I think it actually flows pretty well even with the interludes. They don't really bother me as much as other people though.

I gave this another listen recently and it still holds up as a solid album to me. It's funny, the production didn't bother me as much this time. In fact, it kind of works in certain places.

I actually think if you give this album Sound Awake's or even something like BOT's March Fire's production and it would of been far better received. Songwriting wise this is as good if not better than Themata, for example.
