That Gruesome track is alright. Nice to hear Reinert on another Human-esque dm track.

I just wanted some straight up dm Reinert tbh. His performance on that track was nothing overly special but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Great review! My favorite DEATH album (so hard to pick just one, it's definitely between the sheer majesty & musicianship of this album and the great songwriting, soloing & most excellent vocals by Chuck ever on 1990's "Spiritual Healing."). If pressed I have to pick "Human" as my fav because like all great albums it still sounds fresh even many years and many listens afterward. Plus it still blows me away the speed and dexterity of Reinert's drumming on every track and he was only 18 yrs old when he recorded this. I just recently acquired a good audio setup and I put in the 2011 remaster cd of this album and for the first time I could hear how insanely fast Reinert's double bass drumming is on "Flattening Of Emotions." My head was spinning. It took a good subwoofer with its own bass knob to finally hear the subtleties of the drumming going on in the album. As if there weren't enough amazing things crammed into this album already. It's a monolith of a Metal album.

I feel so alone in saying I can't stand Scott Burns' production work, but I really can't. Even in the albums I love that he produced, his work is often my least favorite facet of the album's sound. To me, that thin buzzy sound just sounds weak and lifeless in metal music. As far as thrash and death metal go, I vastly prefer the Pleasure to Kill/Ride the Lightning/Peace Sells approach of sounding sufficiently raw but also sounding very full and almost expansive (and more bass-heavy too). It's the same reason I have extreme trouble liking Anacrusis' Manic Impressions... that weak guitar tone just kinda kills it for me sadly :[
