I thought you were taking the piss there, my bad. Sometimes I forget not everyone listens to down-tuned 8-string shit all the time.

I do listen to a lot of that stuff, but usually the ones I hear range from drop-A to Drop-F. I don't hear a lot of E-flat, like the tuning for Nebulous. Although there is also Disfiguring the Goddess, who play in crazy tunings like D-flat (already more than an octave below by this point)

Nebulous is orgasmic. Primal and huge even for their standards.

Lol basically, it's pretty amazing - his contortions make the songs look heavy, even if it is a bit goofy

I've been creeping on all the Meshuggah discussions (mainly because they all get BUMPed every three seconds), and whether people are talking about the band's best or worst albums, I almost never see this one mentioned. But I actually think this one is their best, mainly because it seems to be their most "textbook" album, and they don't try anything too out of the ordinary. It's just a collection of solid, groovy tracks with no distinguishable downsides. This is also when the vocalist started to become a bit more listenable to me (can't stand him on their first three albums).

This has a special place in my heart because I got into this band when they released this album and were playing their music videos on fuse and headbangers ball but catch 33 and then obZen, then violent sleep, then probably this

DEI or DIE definitely belongs in the pantheon of classic Sput memes, right up there with nicer dicer and "holy shit, a Mastodon guitar solo!"
Ah, the old days of Sputnik

As a Meshuggah fanboy who will 5 anything they do (including DEI), DEI or DIE is not a valid equation.
