Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
I'm about to break

Album's pretty deserving of a 5, even when it was released I considered all the hype well warranted.

The part that comes in at 1:09 on A New Aurora is one of my favorite riffs ever.

I would 5 this if the entire album was as incredible as the first two tracks

Gotta be listening to Empire when the first snow falls.

That sounds amazing. Honestly a lot of the reason this album seems so applicable to winter is because of the time of its release, but I can't help but picture a very snowy place when I hear this album. I used to drive around when it was insanely cold, blasting this album and repeating it over and over. Now the two just seem to fit well together in my mind

Well, it's a combination of the music & the associations when I first heard it, which was in a snowstorm in winter when I was waiting for a train. Even more so with the song Empire.
|
| |
That definitely sounds like a perfect way to be introduced to this album.
It's funny how memory really connects with music. I can tell anyone where I was the first time that I heard any album I've listened to... It can be a good and bad thing :]
|
| |
Well, it's obviously easier for our brain to make associations with sensory impressions. One of the things they got straight in House M.D. e.g. is the thing that smell can be even more potent for memories/association chains.

| |
That's really interesting. It makes a lot of sense, too; anytime I smell cigarette smoke, I think of an ex of mine, etc.
I should look more into these things.
