why would you even compare death metal bands to pantera???????????

just an example of bands that were doing far more interesting things :]

we can always go deeper but the typical response of blind rockmetal fanboys is that "no one heard of exhorder or demolition hammer back in the day so how can they be good" etc

its very unfortunate how many people look at music through the lens of popularity, what was popular surely must be good, it cant just be commercial candy for simple bros to mosh to... thats why mediocrity is remembered with nostalgia and elevated while the real innovators never get enough credit

its exactly the same all over rock with bands like guns n roses, sex pistols, nirvana, ozzy's solo albums etc.

Rather a part of the changing game than a fucking nerd.

but thats the thing, those bands all changed the game way more than pantera pandering to the simplest of the lot and vying for that radio popularity [:

you want a real deep cut try haji's kitchen, they too did pantera but better. helmet's first two albums, the list goes on

and you trying to assert that commercial radio music a 5 and anyone who disagrees "wasnt there" and is a "fag" is somehow not miserable? not elitist?

just own the fact that you like simple music, this would never have been an argument without your unwarranted ego. but what's a blind rock boomer without ego and self-contradiction haha

i like some simple music too, ramones, misfits, nothing wrong with that

i don't know why you are such a fragile snowflake, just because you like something doesnt mean it has to be the best thing ever.. but clearly it offends you that people who have more knowledge than you disagree so i'll leave it at that :]

this is a 5! sorry that it bothers you that millions of people were listening to this and not your favorite band. do i like simple music, of course i do!!!!!!! as for my ego, i'm a little satisfied that it's under your skin, always thought you were a decent fella there parc, but obviously you have issue with my banter...

“ you sure that wasn't the other way around?”

It wasn’t. Cowboys From Hell is still my favorite Pantera, but Great Southern Trendkill really did blow my mind that much when I first hear it. Suicide Note 1+2 and Floods were absolutely insane to me when I was a young adult

And for the record, as much as I like this album, I still much prefer Trendkill to it. If anything, I’m surprised by your 3.5 for it 😂

Park is absolutely right, but yeah people will like what they like and their reasons are their own. If the excitement of the times / nostalgia plays a part, then so what?

What I do take issue with is the idea that if you weren't 'there' you automatically void any possible opinion you could have on the music, which is basically what zak says in every damn thread (no surprises to see him pop up here).

I mean how are you supposed to debate anything when it can be refuted by a simple 'you weren't there / don't get it' etc. Easy way of diverting criticism away from the things you enjoy, without having to actually talk about anything of substance.

Sounds like my hatred of Blink-182 in a nutshell. Yeah, I wasn’t there for every suburban teen comedy, and Blink still fucking blow

it doesn't bother me at all, commercial entertainment has mostly always been in antithesis to strong artistic expression and innovation, i'm very much used to it. even the beatles owe most of their acclaim to their broad appeal more than anything, although i would argue they did peak much higher than pantera ever did :]

i genuinely think it is unfortunate and sad how many rock fans care more about "fitting in" with defending things that happened to be popular, than actually championing interesting artists with interesting ideas. because it gives younger generations the impression that it was all about bands like this, bon jovi, whitesnake, ac/dc, when in reality the genre had far more interesting things to offer.

its a distorted view into the past, so if young people today think this is what it was all about, if they find it cheesy and stupid, they will be dissuaded from engaging with better bands that absolutely deserve the attention. well, fans killing what they love with dumb takes is nothing new either i suppose...

nope, just correcting shallow stupid takes where i see them :]

nothing personal, its what ive been doing this whole time on this site. and your deflections are as predictable as all the other 5000 rockmetal fanbros ive seen over the years on the internet. the exact same canned responses because you cant stand the fact that you made a fool of yourself with your ego

Titan is a classy guy, stfu park.

I was also there, and Pantera wasn't just awesome because they were 'popular', if they were concerned about that then they would have had baggy jeans, spikey hair and had catchy choruses.

Pantera was awesome because they were genuinely fucking awesome, and this is coming from someone who likes Meshuggah more, and who has bands like Suffo and Morbid Angel in their top 5 death metal bands of all time so I also love those bands you mentioned, dude. Not to mention that a lot of those bands (MA especially) WERE the super popular bands for said genre, so it's not like you're being some underground king right now dude lmao

"iT sUcKs CuZ iTz pOpUlAr" is not exactly a mature take my dude

Stop being wrong and start a fist fight at a bbq in a sleeveless t-shirt and jam Pantera, you fucking nerd. Band is a 100/5
